SMS Alerts Setup
This section outlines the steps to configure Zabbix for SMS alerts with VMR.
Media Type - VMR SMS
Click on Administration > Media types from the main menu.

A media type is a delivery channel for sending messages.
We will need an email media type that points to VMR as its SMTP server. Zabbix will use this media type to send emails to VMR. VMR will then convert these emails to SMS messages.
Check if there is a media type named “VMR SMS”.

If it does not exist, we will create one using the steps below.
Click on Create media type to create the a new “VMR SMS” media type with the following details:
- Name: VMR SMS
- Type: Email
- SMTP server: 127.0.0.1
- SMTP email: sales@variustech.com
Click the Add button to save the information.

Configure user to use "VMR SMS" media type
Click on Administration > Users from the main menu.

Select a user in Zabbix to use the “VMR SMS” media type. This user will be alerted by SMS.
In this example, we will use the admin user. Click on the admin user.

Click on Media tab to view the media summary page for this user. Check if there is a media with type “VMR SMS” tagged to the user.


If it does not exists, click Add to add the media with the following details:
- Type: VMR SMS
- Send to: This field specifies the recipients of the SMS alerts.
You can send SMS to individual mobile numbers or to members of a contact group.
For example:
1. To send SMS to the mobile no. 91111111, specify the email recipient as 91111111@fluidsms.com.
2. To send SMS to members of a group called “alertgroup”, specify the email recipient as alertgroup@fluidsms.com.
Click the Add button to save the information.

Configure user to use "VMR SMS" media type
Click on Configuration > Actions from the main menu.

Make sure that the action named “Report problems to Zabbix adminstrators” is enabled.
