XB-6208RB User Guide

XB-6208RB reads 1D and 2D barcodes. It works with mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, IOS, Android, Windows) using Bluetooth.

Connection modes

Please ensure that the barcode scanner is fully charged before using it.

The following connection modes are supported:

  • Microsoft Windows: Corded, wireless, Bluetooth
  • Android (mobile phones, tablets): Corded with OTG adapter, Bluetooth 
  • iOS (iPad, iPhone) – Corded with Lightning to USB adapter, Bluetooth
  • macOS (MacBook): Corded, Bluetooth

Follow the steps below to use the three connection modes for XB-6208RB.

Using wireless with USB dongle

  1. Connect the USB receiver (dongle) to the USB port of the computer.
  2. Ensure that Windows can detect the USB receiver in Device Manager.
    It should appear as a HID Keyboard Device under Keyboards.

    Note:
    Some Windows version identifies the USB dongle as BLE Remote KMA Dongle and tries to automatically install multiple drivers and  failed. Ignore the errors.
  3. Turn on the barcode scanner by pressing the trigger.
  4. The USB receiver will attempt to pair with the barcode scanner.
  5. When pairing is successful, both the USB receiver and the barcode scanner will show a steady purple light.
  6. Open Notepad and attempt to scan a barcode with the barcode scanner. The scanned barcode will appear in Notepad.
How to pair
Please perform the following steps to pair the barcode scanner with the USB receiver.
Remember to cover the other configuration barcodes to prevent scanning of wrong barcodes.
  1. Disconnect the USB receiver from the USB port of the computer.
  2. Scan Factory Default barcodes I,II,III with the barcode scanner.
  3. Scan Bluetooth Pairing barcodes I, II with the barcode scanner.
  4. Connect the USB receiver to the USB port of the computer. The USB receiver will attempt to pair with the barcode scanner. During the attempt, both the USB receiver and the barcode scanner will show blinking purple light.
  5. When pairing is successful, both the USB receiver and the barcode scanner will show a steady purple light.

Using bluetooth mode

  1. Turn on the barcode scanner by pressing the trigger.
  2. If the barcode scanner has already paired successfully with a mobile device (iPhone, iPad, IOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS), the device will attempt to pair with the barcode scanner.
  3. During the attempt, the barcode scanner will show blinking purple light.
  4. When pairing is successful, the barcode scanner will show a steady purple light.
  5. Open a Text Editor in the mobile device and attempt to scan a barcode with the barcode scanner. The scanned barcode will appear in the mobile device.
How to pair
The barcode scanner will auto re-pair with the mobile device that it has paired successfully upon start up.
You do not need to pair the barcode scanner each time you start up the barcode scanner.
Remember to cover the other configuration barcodes to prevent scanning of wrong barcodes.
  1. Scan Factory Default barcodes I,II,III with the barcode scanner.
  2. Scan Bluetooth Pairing barcodes I, II with the barcode scanner.
  3. Access the Bluetooth settings of the mobile device to search for the barcode scanner “R&B40” and select pair to pair with the barcode scanner.
  4. When pairing is successful, the barcode scanner will show a steady purple light.

Using wired mode

  1. Connect the barcode scanner to the USB port of the computer with the USB cable provided.
  2. Ensure that Windows can detect the barcode scanner in Device Manager.
  3. Turn on the barcode scanner by pressing the trigger.
  4. Open Notepad and attempt to scan a barcode with the barcode scanner. The scanned barcode will appear in Notepad.
How to configure for direct USB connection with the computer
Please perform the following steps to configure the barcode scanner for direct USB connection with the computer.
Remember to cover the other configuration barcodes to prevent scanning of wrong barcodes.
  1. Scan Factory Default barcode I only with the barcode scanner.

Configuration

Aiming beam help a user to find the best reading distance when aiming to read.

  • Normal: Aiming beam appears when trigger is pressed.
  • Always light: Aiming beam is always present.
  • No light: Aiming beam is not present
  • Flicker / No Flicker: Applies when aiming beam is set to “Normal” or “Always light”

You can turn off 2D barcode scanning. With this method, only 1D barcode will be recognized. This setting can speed up the reading of 1D barcodes.

You can enable Codabar scanning.

The barcode scanner has the following scan modes.

  1. Manual (default): Press the trigger of the barcode scanner 
  2. Continuous mode: The barcode scanner scans continuously.
  3. Auto-sense mode: The barcode scanner detects the presence of a barcode and scans automatically.
The default scan mode out of the box is the manual mode.
 
To change scan mode please scan the respective QR code.
 

The barcode scanner will automatically turn off after 1 minute (default) to conserve the battery power.  

To change the sleep time please follow the following steps:

  • Wired mode:
    1. Scan Factory default I, II, III QR codes.

    2. Scan the respective Sleep Time QR code.
  • Wireless or bluetooth mode: Scan the respective Sleep Time QR code.
 

The barcode scanner has an internal storage that is used to store scanned data when it is operating under different storage modes. The capacity of the internal storage is 512,000 characters.

The barcode scanner can operate in the following storage modes.

  1. Auto-storage mode (default):
    When the barcode scanner cannot communicate with the USB dongle or paired device, the scanned data will be automatically stored in its internal storage.
    The communication issue can be due to the following reasons.
    – The maximum transmission distance between the barcode scanner and the USB dongle or paired device is exceeded.
    – The USB dongle is not plugged in.
    – The paired device is not turned on.
    When communication is restored, data will be automatically uploaded.
  2. Inner-storage mode: All scanned data is stored in the internal storage of the barcode scanner.
  3. In-time mode: When the barcode scanner cannot communicate with the USB dongle or paired device, no scanned data will be stored in its internal storage.
The default storage mode out of the box is the auto-storage mode.
 
To change storage mode please scan the respective QR code.
 
When operating under inner-storage mode, please scan the respective QR code.
  • Upload all data – Upload all data stored in the internal storage.
  • Upload new data – Upload new data stored in the internal storage after the last upload
  • Clear all data – Delete all data from the internal storage.

Troubleshooting

The barcode scanner has a default “Sleep time” of 1 minute to conserve battery power. It will automatically power off after 1 minute. Please refer to the “Sleep Time” section above to disable sleep or configure a different sleep time duration.

If the barcode scanner turns off immediately after it is turned on, it is an indication of low battery. Please charge the barcode scanner with the power adapter provided.

The barcode scanner has an internal chargeable battery.

  • Charging time: Around 5 hours to fully charge.
  • Usage time: Around 7 hours on full charge depending on the frequency of usage.
  • Indicator light: Green when charging. Indicator light is turned off when fully charged.

The barcode scanner has an indicator light displaying different status.

  • Red light: The barcode scanner is turned on.
  • Blinking purple light: The barcode scanner is attempting to pair.
  • Steady purple light: The barcode scanner is paired successfully.
  • Green light: The barcode scanner is charging. Indicator light is turned off when fully charged.

To power on the barcode scanner, press and hold the trigger.

To power off the barcode scanner, press and hold the trigger for 20 seconds. Once a beep is heard, the barcode scanner is turned off.

If the barcode scanner is unable to pair with a mobile device that it has been paired previously, please perform the following steps.

  1. Turn off both the mobile device and the barcode scanner. 
  2. Turn on both devices again. 
  3. This is to re-activate the Bluetooth connectivity of both devices.

Please perform the following steps to reset the barcode scanner.

  1. Unplug the USB dongle if it is connected.
  2. Scan the following factory reset barcode. 
  3. Reconfigure the barcode scanner with the instructions in the section above –  “Wireless mode (default): Using USB dongle with Windows computer”.
  1. Make sure that the barcode scanner is configured to work in Wireless mode. 
  2. Unplug the USB dongle and plug it to another USB port.
  3. Check the indicator lights on the USB dongle. If it is steady purple, it has established a connection with the barcode scanner.
  4. The Windows “USB selective suspend” feature may have  suspended the USB port to save power. Please disable this feature using the method here.
